“It Is Because There Is No Light In Them.”~ Prayer and Blessing for My Beloved

One paradox of Christ is that he is simultaneously a sanctuary and a stumbling block. However, in life we face a binary choice: Christ is either our sanctuary or our stumbling block—there is no middle ground. Isaiah challenges hearers of the word to inquire, not to take things at face value, and to become discerners of God’s truth, much like the Berean believers who diligently searched the scriptures for authenticity.

God doesn’t want us to be Christians who follow blind leaders like the Basenji “barkless dogs,” who give fair-weather teachings. We must choose for ourselves, just like the Berean believers. When we follow God’s word, he becomes a light to our path in life and our sanctuary of hope, peace, and joy.

“To the Law, and to the testimony, if they speak not according to this word: it is because there is no light in them.” (Isaiah 8:20)
