I thank God that he is a god of justice, order, and compassion for the Jew and the Gentile alike. He is a lover of all mankind, who he has made in his image. As a good father he watches over his children and calls us his sheep. He knows that like sheep, we have a tendency to wander, are easily confused, have a mass-minded herd mentality, become highly stressed when isolated, and will often follow a leader blindly. I’m grateful that we are his responsibility, and as such he is always prepared to leave the ninety-nine and go after the one lost sheep.
God heard Ishmael’s bleating cry when he was left by his mother Hagar to die in the wilderness after they were abandoned by his father, the patriarch Abraham. God rescued them and told Hagar that he would make a great nation out of Ishmael. God is not a respecter of person and loves all the sheep of his pasture. If you turn to him, he will show you great and mighty things and will make a great nation out of you for his honor and glory.
“Know ye that even the Lord is God; he hath made us, and not we ourselves: we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” (Psalm 100:3)
