The last dot is one we all must face in life. Have you ever wondered when yours will be inserted? I look at the recent death of my brother Delano, Dolly Parton, and the decline of Gladys Knight, Joe Biden, and our own president, Donald Trump, and it causes me to wonder. It forces me—I don’t know about you, but it forces me— to have a “Come to Jesus” moment. A moment when I ask myself: What have I accomplished? What do I still need to do? What do I still want to experience with this precious life I’ve been given? Some call it a, “bucket list.” I call it, an appreciation for the gift of life list. I want to make sure I live mine well and leave a legacy, footprints for others to follow so that they can enjoy the incredible gift of life mankind has been given.
I want to leave a legacy like Dolly’s, that feeds the hungry, comforts the broken-hearted, and empowers children all over the world with the magical gift of reading that allows their young minds to explore this world, design helpful inventions for mankind, and leaves it better than how they found it.
And before my dot is inserted, I want to insert Gladys Knight’s song into my own story and rename it: “The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me Was Finding Jesus.” He has been my Comforter when depressed, Healer when sick, Waymaker out of poverty, and Guide when I was confused. Like the woman at the well, I thank him for giving me “Living Water” that has caused me to thirst no more. All that I am—from poverty to abundance—is because of his grace. I want to continue to live a long life with a healthy body that allows me to win at pickleball with people half my age. Each day I want to wake up and say like the old folks, “Lord, I thank you for life, the health and strength of my body, the use of my limbs, and the sanity of my mind.” And if I don’t wake up, I want to say like Dolly Parton and George Bailey, “It’s [Been] A Wonderful Life!” LOL- to God be the glory!
“I assure you and most solemnly say to you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and walked wherever you wished; but when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands and arms, and someone else will dress you, and carry you where you do not wish to go.” (John 21:18)
Enjoy your day, use it wisely and know that the best is yet to come! ❤️ always and forever.
