“I Will Put Thee In A Cleft Of The Rock, And Will Cover Thee” ~ Prayer and Blessing for My Beloved

An elderly man with a beard sits in a rocky cave, looking contemplative as a large, glowing hand reaches down from the sky, casting light over the mountainous landscape.

Raphael Warnock spoke on God hiding believers in the cleft of a rock while the storms of life pass over. During a pivotal movement in the development of God’s atonement with mankind, Moses cried out to God for help when he felt alone, desolate, and frightened about the future. God told Moses to stand upon the rock and he would put him in the cleft of the rock as he passed over.

I shared with a friend following the aftermath of my brother’s death that I was feeling better and was now recovering from a cold that caused me to feel weak and fatigued for a few days. I questioned aloud how for seven months during my brother’s stage four cancer journey I was able to endure sleepless nights, a sense of weariness, and never got physically sick.

I now realize that because I stood on God’s word, he hid me in the cleft of it. As the storm from my brother’s disease eventually overtook him, God’s glory passed by and freed my brother from spiritual and physical pain. I thank God that his glory covered me and kept me healthy and strong, protecting me in the cleft of his word, allowing me to minister to my brother during his time of need.

I pray that as the world experiences wanton expressions of hate, violence, sickness, and disease, that believers will stand upon the rock of God’s word, knowing that God has promisesd to hide us, place us in a cleft, and give us authority over rulers of darkness while he shows his glory and causes the storms of life to pass over.

“Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon the rock: And while my glory passeth by, I will put thee in a cleft of the rock, and will cover thee with mine hand while I pass by.” (Exodus 33:21-22)
